It will take some time for Brazil to get rid of all the negative legacies left by the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government. One of them was revealed on Friday (7) by the Minister of Health Control of the Ministry of Health, Ethel Maciel, who revealed that there are no vaccines for children (pediatrics) to fight Covid-19 in the country.
As a measure to circumvent this shortfall, Maciel and the ministry team are negotiating the expectation of vaccine deliveries from Pfizer.
3.2 million vaccines are expected to be delivered to children aged 6 months to 4 years and 4.5 million to children aged 5 to 11 years. The stock of vaccines is replenished for more than 12 years.
Among other measures, the health control minister revealed that the contract with the Butantan Institute for vaccine production should be resumed as a way to help make vaccine doses available. Coronavac can be used in children from the age of three.
In addition, vaccination against Covid should be part of the National Immunization Program (PNI), because the two-dose vaccination scheme with an additional booster dose has not even reached 50% of the population.
