Since the end of the auction to allocate 5G frequencies to operators, customers have been able to enjoy the service for free. But all investments must be profitable, and the day will come when 5G technology will pay for itself! Find out when the free service will be postponed.

Free 5G until January 31, 2024 in Portugal
According to the latest information, MEO, NOS and Vodafone must offer 5G by January 31, 2024. After this period, Portuguese will have to pay for this service.
It must also be remembered that MEO, NOS and Vodafone, which have acquired at least 50 MHz in the 3.6 GHz band, are obliged to install external macro or small cell base stations whenever requested by the following entities:








Hospitals and health centers.
Universities, other higher education institutions and other entities of the national scientific and technological system;
Ports and airports.
military institutions;
Entities that manage or promote business parks, industrial parks or business location areas.

According to ANACOM, all municipalities already have 5G base stations installed.  The number of fifth generation base stations installed increased by 12%, equivalent to 839 new stations, bringing the total to 7,831 stations.
