The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, issued on Tuesday, June 23, the diploma that puts an end, as of 2025, to tolls on some old free-for-users highways (SCUT), specifically on the A13 and A23, which cross several municipalities in the Santarém region.
According to a memo published on the presidency’s website, Marcelo gave the “green light” to the decree that “eliminates tolls on sections and subsections of internal highways and on roads where there are no alternatives that allow for quality and safe use, and repeals Decree-Law No. 97 of 2023 issued on October 17.”
It should be remembered that the bill in question originated from a proposal made by the Socialist Party’s parliamentary body, approved in June, with votes in favour of the Socialist Party, Chega, Bloco de Esquerda, the Communist Party, Livre and the National Action Party, and abstentions from the Liberal Initiative and against the PSD and CDS-PP.
The objective of the diploma is to end tolls on the A4 – Transmontana and Tonle do Marão; A13 and A13-1 – Pinhal inland; A22 – Algarve; A23 – Beira inland; A24 – North inland; A25 – Beiras Litoral and Alta; and A28 – Minho in the sections between Esposende and Antas and between Neiva and Darque, with an expected entry into force on January 1, 2025.
In the area, the A13 and A23 roads cross the municipalities of Abrantes, Barquinha, Constancia, Entroncamento, Macau, Tomar, Torres Novas and Sardual.
