Hatfield-based Ocado is planning to use 'humanoid robots' at its warehouses as early as 2025.
The aim is for the 'SecondHands' robots to be exactly that - a second pair of hands for engineers.
The robot will learn through observation and will augment the humans’ capabilities by completing tasks that require a level of precision or physical strength that are not available to human workers.
The company, based on Hatfield Business Park, has already built a prototype.
The firm's addressed fears that the technology could replace people - instead saying it would take away "an element of a technician's job that is physically demanding, boring or unpleasant".
